Don't worry, I'm still alive!
My day job can take me away from home from time to time; for
obvious reasons I'm not keen to announce this to the world when it
happens!
Although I try my best, I don't guarantee to answer every email I
get. Generic NQS is one of my hobbies - it's no longer my day
job [more].
Your web/ftp site hasn't been updated since 1997
You are probably looking at our old site (http://www.shef.ac.uk/~nqs)
(in which case you won't find this answer either).
The official home of Generic NQS is http://www.gnqs.org/.

Is platform XYZ supported?
We have a list of platforms that Generic NQS has worked on at
some point or other. You can find that list here.
Generic NQS consists of a core POSIX.1 port, and a core BSD4.3
port. All of the platform-specific ports are based on one or
other of these core ports.
This means that there is a good chance that Generic NQS will work
with little or no modification on most versions of UNIX. If
you need help porting Generic NQS, join the NQS-Developers mailing
list [more].
Direct FTP access to ftp.gnqs.org
has been disabled partially for security reasons (on my firewall),
and partially because it sits behind a second firewall I have no
control over.

Our old FTP site, at ftp://ftp.shef.ac.uk/pub/uni/projects/nqs/,
still exists. Many Internet search engines still point there.

Where can I obtain RPM's from?
Officially, you can't. Why? Two main reasons.
- When you compile Generic NQS, you currently have to decide
which features to compile in, and which features to compile
out. It currently isn't possible to select features at
runtime.
- I'm not a fan of RPM's, having spent too many late nights
working with them on an aging RedHat distribution.
I hope to work towards a system where, once GNQS is compiled, it
will produce a RPM for you to install. I don't know when this
will be made available.
Where can I obtain a compiled version for Solaris from?
At the moment, you can't.

- Until late Sept 1999, I didn't have access to Solaris to
package up Generic NQS.
Thanks to a hardware donation from Sun [more],
I now have two SPARC workstations to use for making binary releases
of GNQS. I've also setup Solaris/x86, so that I can make
binary releases for that platform too.
Where can I obtain a compiled version for platform XYZ from?
At the moment, you can't.
I'm interested in setting up a scheme so that we can make
compiled versions of future Generic NQS releases available. If
you're interested in contributing, join the NQS-Developers
mailing list [more].
